A calm person. A warning nobody listens to. And a short circuit that leaves everything out of control.

We all know someone who seems impossible to anger. They can be completely chill, having a conversation and minding their own business. That does not mean nothing bothers them. A lot of the time, they simply give you a warning before they reach the limit.

First, they try to stay calm. Then they ask you to stop. They might even tell you clearly: "That is enough."

But the other person keeps going.

They keep bothering them, keep provoking them, keep pushing their buttons. Until something breaks.

That is what Snapped is about.

When the patience runs out

The idea is pretty simple: a very calm person is trying to avoid a fight, but the other person does not understand the warnings or chooses to ignore them.

They keep pushing for a reaction. And the more they are told to calm down, the closer they get to losing their temper.

Until it happens.

"Something snapped inside of me."

From that moment on, the patience is gone. The person who had been trying to stay calm loses control and ends up making a scene.

The fun is in taking the situation all the way. We did not want to talk about being out of control from a sad or dramatic place. We wanted to imagine what happens when someone who has been completely chill finally explodes, like a runaway train that cannot be stopped.

A riff, a sample, and an idea

Snapped started with a riff Felipe had written. He put together a demo and sent it to us so we could start working on it.

That first version had a sample saying "out of control." That phrase gave us the song's initial direction. We said, let's make a song about being out of control, but not from an emotional or melancholy angle.

We wanted more energy. More speed. More excess.

That is where the idea of a calm person being pushed and provoked until they lose their temper came in. We liked the contradiction: someone who seems to have everything under control until they completely stop having it.

After that, we worked on the lyrics together. We changed lines, tried different ideas, and looked for words that had the same energy as the music.

The explosion

The chorus builds through a series of increasingly exaggerated images.

Overdrive. Overheat. Overload. Overkill.

The song talks about a machine with no brakes, a bomb about to explode, and a bull crashing through a door. Everything keeps getting bigger, faster, and more ridiculous.

That was exactly what we wanted.

The main feeling in Snapped is not sadness or some solemn kind of anger. It is the energy that appears when someone crosses the line and there is no way to stop them anymore.

It is also a situation most people recognize. We have probably all seen someone put up with too much, say "enough" several times, and still get pushed until they finally explode.

For this song, we imagined what happens afterward, once the whole scene has completely gone out of control.

The short circuit

The cover shows two stripped wires that are still connected by one last strand of copper.

That tiny strand is the only thing keeping everything connected. It is about to break, as if the tension has already run through the whole system and something is about to fail.

To us, the image represents what is happening inside the protagonist's mind. Something has already broken. The short circuit has started. All that is left is for the final connection to disappear.

The orange in the cover also helps carry that sense of heat, danger, and built-up energy. At first glance, everything seems contained, but the image already feels like it is about to explode.

The seventh song

On Still in Time, Snapped is the seventh song in the tracklist.

The album order is:

  1. Traces
  2. Take a Leap
  3. Not Enough
  4. Lending Love
  5. The Sculptor
  6. Still in Time
  7. Snapped

Its energy is different from several of the songs before it. It is not trying to look back or explain a wound. It simply speeds up and runs hot.

It is a direct, exaggerated power song. One of those songs that can make you smile while the protagonist screams that he has left everything behind and there is no way to stop him now.
